Operational checklist for third-party API integrations

Summary#

When adding or changing externally billed API-backed features, code changes are only one part of the rollout. The safer pattern is to ship implementation together with explicit checks for pricing, billing tests, QA, and stakeholder communication so integration work does not outrun operational readiness.

Problem#

Teams merge partner or model integrations that technically work but leave pricing metadata, billing coverage, QA signoff, or internal communication incomplete.

Solution#

Use a required PR checklist for API-node changes that gates merge readiness on billing updates, automated billing test coverage, QA status, and named communication owners. Treat these non-code items as first-class acceptance criteria, not optional follow-up work.

Failure Modes#

Feature launches with incorrect or missing pricing configuration
Usage is billable but regression coverage was not updated
A checklist exists but boxes are left unchecked and not enforced
Ownership for rollout communication is implicit, so downstream teams are surprised
